Camp Sumatanga is such a special place to me and my family.  I started going to Camp in 1994. My youth director at the time was moving to another a church, but he mentioned to me that I could keep in touch by seeing him at Camp Sumatanga. It only took one time for me to go there, spark new friendships and experiences and I was hooked. Throughout my high school years, I attended the weeklong summer leadership camps (one year it was the International Peace Camp where campers from all over the world joined us) to conference and church weekend retreats to camp counselor when another youth director’s was Elementary Camp Director.  My memories from those days are filled with the dances (Buttercup, Amos Moses…), singing lyrics from a slide show (Shower the People You Love with Love….Love Can Build a Bridge), Nina Reeves’ night time stories, the hike to the cross, the Chigger Bowl, the Craft Hut….I really could go on and on.

As a young adult, camp took on a whole new meaning when I attended an Emmaus Walk. The Camp I had experienced as youth became a place of unspeakable love that was like icing on the cake. From there I got the joy of serving on various Emmaus teams and getting to go back to camp again and again. Over the more recent years, my kids have all attended various camps and retreats at Camp Sumatanga and in seeing their joy and love for the camp has truly made my cup runneth over.

Camp Sumatanga is such a special place with lasting memories to my family and so many more in our area. The recent updates to some of the facilities have been great to see all while still having the feeling in my soul of being at the same place I first came to in 1994. I strongly encourage you to consider supporting Camp Sumatanga to continue sharing this wonderful place and most importantly God’s love for the generations to come.
