My Sumatanga story is somewhat different from that of many. I do not the connection to Summer Camping as a child or youth. The church I was raised in did not do retreats or picnics at the Camp. As a matter of fact, I had never heard of Camp Sumatanga until I became a Methodist pastor. Then it was a place I only 'heard about.' Then I was asked to go on an Emmaus Walk in the late 1980's and my love for the Camp started to grow. Through the Emmaus Community, the Kairos Community and service on the Board of Ordained Ministry, I watched as the Holy Spirit used this sacred space as place to grow disciples and build leaders for the Church. Through this I have been blessed and transformed by Spirit-enocounters and the building of a large network of special brothers and sisters in Jesus.
